The north of Kosovo remains blocked by barricades, while the Brnjak and Jarinje administrative crossings closed down, as are schools in the area, the RTS public service reported Dec. 12.
Roadblocks were erected in several municipalities in Kosovo’s north on Dec 10, by local Serbs protesting the arrest of former Kosovo Police officer Dejan Pantic. Pantic is under suspicion of participating in last week’s attacks on the Central Electoral Commission’s offices in northern Kosovo.
The Kosovo Police has announced that the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings have been shut down for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for security reasons.
On Dec. 12, Serb Ticket President Goran Rakic announced that, due to the escalating situation in Kosovo’s north, a crisis headquarters has been formed and will be regularly reporting on the situation on the ground. For the time being, all local schools will remain closed.
Following a Dec. 11 session of Serbia’s National Security Council, President Aleksandar Vucic called on all north Kosovo Serbs to remain calm, even in the face of provocations, and underlined that attacks on KFOR and EULEX must not happen under any circumstances.
