Amidst escalating tensions in Kosovo, EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Gabriel Escobar will be visiting Belgrade on Dec. 14.

Lajcak will first meet one-on-one with President Aleksandar Vucic, after which they will be joined by Escobar, the U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans. No statements will be issued following the sit-downs.

Escobar will also be meeting with Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic.

The two Western officials will arrive in Belgrade from Pristina. Tensions in Kosovo’s north are high, with Serbs having barricaded main thoroughfares in response to the recent arrest of former Kosovo Police Officer Dejan Pantic.

Meanwhile, Kosovo authorities have closed down the Jarinje and Brnjak administrative crossings to all traffic, including pedestrian. Tensions in the territory have been steadily escalating since Serbs withdrew from all Kosovo institutions on Nov. 5.
