Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Dec. 20 said she was expecting the parliament to pass five judicial laws in February next year, adding that a new national strategy for combating corruption would be adopted by June 2023.
Speaking at the presentation of a project titled “The EU for Rule of Law in Serbia,” Brnabic explained that these laws would ensure the independence of the judiciary and the legal system, recalling that the Venice Commission had given a positive opinion of the five draft laws.
The draft laws address judges, organization of courts, the High Court Council, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the High Prosecutorial Council.
Brnabic also said that a working group had been set up to create a strategy for curbing corruption, adding it would start working in January next year.
The prime minister added that a part of the project “The EU for the Rule of Law in Serbia” was also important for this field as well as for financial investigations and fight against organized crime.
