Former judge of the Commercial Court in Podgorica Blazo Jovanic, who is accused of abusing his position, has offered EUR442,000 in real estate to the Higher Court to be let out of detention, the Court confirmed on Dec. 22

The Podgorica Vijesti newspaper was told by the Higher Court that Jovanic offered EUR442,000 to the court in real estate to be released from custody after spending eight months in jail. Jovanic was arrested in May this year for abusing his position while the prosecution indicted him at the end of November. He pleaded not guilty.

The Court Council dismissed Jovanic as a judge in July “as he faces criminal proceedings for an act that is undignified of a judge.” Jovanic is one of three top justice officials arrested in the past several months.

Former Montenegrin Supreme Court judge Vesna Medenica was arrested for abusing her position in April while special prosecutor for organized crime Sasa Cadenovic was arrested at the beginning of the month for cooperating with the Kavacki drug gang.
