Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic said on Dec. 30 that the abatement of tensions in Kosovo’s north represents “a small diplomatic victory” for Serbia.

In a statement following the removal of the roadblocks throughout northern Kosovo, Vucevic added that it is good “that, after so long, Serbia was not again required to make concessions” but rather won new regulations which should “at least somewhat” guarantee the safety of local Serbs.

“We should be satisfied. Not overly, because life for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija remains far from easy, nor has the knot of Kosovo and Metohija been untangled. None of us are under the illusion that this has solved everything, but I do think we have achieved a small diplomatic victory,” the minister told Happy TV.

Vucevic further said that he does not hold high hopes for KFOR accepting Serbia’s proposal regarding the return of Serbian forces to Kosovo.

“I’m not very optimistic, but do hope that, one day, the conditions will allow the return of our military and police to Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucevic concluded.
