On Nov. 1, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a decision to dissolve the Serbian National Assembly and announced that extraordinary elections will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17.
The pre-election campaign will last until midnight on Dec. 14, when electoral silence will begin.
In his address from the President’s Office, Vucic wished the public “good elections” and all campaigners success in presenting their ideas and goals – “in a civilized and democratic manner.”
“We live… in a time when we must all be united in the fight to preserve Serbia’s vital national and state interests, a time when we will face numerous pressures over our stance on Kosovo and Metohija and other regional and global issues,” Vucic said.
Prior to the president’s announcement, Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic called local elections for 65 local municipalities – including Belgrade, Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Krusevac, Novi Pazar, Pirot, Vranje, Leskovac, Loznica, Prokuplje, Smederevo and Sabac – also to be held on Dec. 17.
