The president of the New “Ask the Professional” Party (New D2SP), Vladimir Kovacevic, cautioned on Feb. 22 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s address from the IDEX arms fair in Abu Dhabi unveiled Serbia’s inability to keep up with technical and technological developments in the global defense industry.
“I’d like to recall that the United Arab Emirates had been a Bedouin state until 1954. The country grew quickly with a clear goal, and today we are facing a paradox – Serbia, a onetime giant in the military industry, is now buying modern drones from what once was a Bedouin state, whose people were living in tents and with camels,” Kovacevic explained.
The Serbian economist and business owner wants to know why Serbia does not invest in modern technologies, instead of supporting foreign economies by the arms purchases. Serbia should use the money to build its own factories, Kovacevic suggested.
“Why don’t we support professionals and guide the IT sector, praised so loudly at home, towards state-of-the-art military technologies? A purchase should be no news at all for serous people, it doesn’t take a genius. A sale does though, and it’s what we should be looking forward to,” Kovacevic explained.
