The presidents of Serbia and Guinea-Bissau, Aleksandar Vucic and Umaro Sissoco Embalo, stated in Belgrade on April 6 that they would work on the further development of friendly relations, after the two countries’ officials signed two bilateral agreements.

Speaking at the joint news conference after a private meeting with Vucic and the plenary meeting of the two countries’ delegations, Sissoco Embalo stated that the signing of bilateral agreements reflected the continuity of traditional relations between Serbia and Guinea-Bissau.

“We have had traditionally friendly relations since the time of Marshall Tito, one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement. During our struggle for liberation, we enjoyed great support of our brothers from the former Yugoslavia. Serbia is our brotherly country and we will continue to develop relations that have existed for a long time,” Sissoco Embalo stated.

Vucic said that President Sissoco Embalo and he had agreed on an increase of the number of students from Guinea-Bissau who will study in Belgrade under scholarships from Serbia, and on cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Ahead of the leaders’ addresses, the two countries’ officials signed the Memorandum of understanding on establishing mechanisms for political consultations between the foreign ministries of Serbia and Guinea-Bissau, and the Agreement between the two countries’ governments on abolishing visas for bearers of diplomatic, government and special passports.
