U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Gary Peters said in Pristina on May 22 that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina had to be concluded this year, and that Belgrade must stop blocking Pristina's bids to join international organizations.
After meeting with Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti, they spoke with the press and called for a quick implementation of the Belgrade-Pristina agreements made in Brussels and Ohrid.
Senator Murphy said that the "issue of Serbia" had been discussed and that this was the year when "that process should be concluded," urging for the agreement to be carried out as soon as possible.
After meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, Murphy said the Brussels and Ohrid deals obligate Kosovo to allow the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, and stressed that his hope was that the Community would be established "as soon as possible."
Murphy also said Serbia must stop "obstructing Kosovo, its right to be part of international organizations."
The senators visit to Kosovo is the first leg of a Balkan tour that will include all Western Balkan states.
