The Independent Trade Union of Education Workers of Serbia on May 23 encouraged education workers who were under pressure to against their will attend a political rally of Serbian Progressive Party leader Aleksandar Vucic, scheduled for May 26 in Belgrade, to seek legal assistance and support from the Union.

According to the information of the Union, school principals across Serbia have been pressuring their staff and teachers on fixed-term contracts to attend the political rally which would be organized by the incumbent regime in Belgrade on May 26, according to a statement from the Independent Trade Union.

“They have been orally warned that their fixed-term contracts will not be renewed unless they attend the rally,” the Trade Union said in the statement and called on education workers “to say ‘no’ to such pressure and thereby give a lecture of dignity to their pupils and students, co-workers, principals, and the entire society.”

The Trade Union also stressed that support and legal assistance would be provided to all, regardless of whether they were union members or not.
