On May 26, healthcare institutions in the country whose management has close ties to the Progressives will be operating at 20 percent capacity, said Rade Panic of the Doctors’ and Pharmacists’ Union of Serbia. This projection is based on the rally attendance quotas healthcare providers have been issued by the Serbian Progressive Party, he explained.
Speaking for the May 25 issue of the Nova daily, Panic cautioned the public to avoid seeking medical assistance on the day of the gathering – which is to take place in Belgrade – unless absolutely necessary.
“All interim directors are obligated to attend the rally, as are all their subordinates who were hired based on party affiliation. This means that, on May 26, public clinics and hospital wards will be missing managers, doctors, but also nurses, orderlies, and lab technicians. Only a few on-call [personnel] will remain. Even the reception desks will be empty – people won’t have anyone to check in with,” Panic said.
He also expressed his belief that many appointments scheduled for the day have already been canceled.
