As much as they may disagree, Serbia’s government and professional actors need to sit down and talk, said Vladimir Djukanovic, a member of the Serbian Progressive Party’s presidency known for his close political and personal ties to President Aleksandar Vucic.
In an op-ed for the June 19 edition of the Politika daily, Djukanovic stated that such a de-escalation would be in everyone’s best interest “because tomorrow these actors will be acting in films that are parts of projects of the highest national interest.”
According to him, “what’s most important is that everyone tone down their belligerence, extend a hand and realize that it’s in everyone’s [best] interest to work for Serbia.”
“The regime [needs] to accept that it is completely fine that there are people with different life and political views, among whom actors are obviously most prominent. The actors, on the other hand, need to be honest and sometimes set their egos aside and admit that, under the regime they are not so fond of, they have managed to work more than ever and earn a living,” Djukanovic wrote.
