Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said in Subotica after meeting with her Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenkovic on June 23 that Serbia considered ties to Croatia very important and was sincerely interested in developing overall relations and advancing cooperation.

"This visit by Prime Minister Plenkovic on June 23 and my recent visit to Zagreb are very important and provide a positive impetus for establishing considerably better relations in the future," Brnabic said in Subotica, at the opening of the Matica Croatian House.

She said increasing the frequency of meetings and visits would be very important for further talks and coming closer to resolving open issues between the two countries. "Serbia and Croatia share a lot. We have a lot in common -- sadly, both good and bad. And it is certainly no secret that we are still burdened by the heavy consequences of our shared history, which often led to the cooling of relations," Brnabic said.

Plenkovic, whose visit to Serbia was his first since becoming Prime Minister in 2016, visited Sremska Mitrovica on June 23, too, where he toured the Cathedral of St Demetrios and met with Bishop of Srem Fabijan Svalin and other members of the Croat community.
