Responding to the call of the pro-EU opposition parties, a large number of citizens gathered outside the Special Court in Belgrade in the morning on July 11 to offer support to inspector Dusan Mitic, who will continue to testify in the Jovanjica drug farm case.

Before the hearing, opposition representatives told the assembled citizens that the public represented the only protection of inspectors Mitic and Slobodan Milenkovic, stressing that this case was a precedent in the world, explaining that never before were the police officers who had discovered such a big drug treated as suspects.

The assembled citizens were addressed by opposition MPs Marinka Tepic, Miroslav Aleksic, Nebojsa Zelenovic, Djordje Miketic, Marija Lukic, Janko Veselinovic, Srdjan Milivojevic, Borislav Novakovic, Pavle Grbovic, Biljana Djordjevic, and Borko Stefanovic.

Democratic Party MP Srdjan Milivojevic said that at the latest Serbia against Violence protest, citizens were called on to assemble outside the Special Court on July 11, because, he said, “it is important to show that Dusan Mitic, Slobodan Milenkovic and all other honorable police officers do not stand alone.”

Freedom and Justice Party deputy leader Marinika Tepic said that the inspectors of the Fourth drug enforcement department, Dusan Mitic and Slobodan Milenkovic, who had discovered the Jovanjica drug farm, “are protected only by the public” and “only the public keeps them alive.” Tepic also said the first defendant in the Jovanjica case, Predrag Koluvija, was defended in court by Vladimir Djukanovic, the chairman of the Parliament’s Justice Committee, while outside courthouse, Koluvija was defended by Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic.
