On Aug. 13, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party’s decision to employ masked men to deal with the protesters in Vrbas and Backa Palanka who rallied in front of local Progressives’ offices was vocally condemned by the country’s opposition and dubbed proof of both the state’s collapse and the regime’s desire to incite civil war.
According to the Freedom and Justice Party, the events in Vrbas prove that Serbia no longer has valid state institutions. The live broadcast from the Vrbas showed what a total collapse of government looks like along with the “death of the last ember of hope that reason will prevail,” the party said.
The Democratic Party claimed that the incidents in both towns reflect the regime’s desire to cause conflict among the people by employing thugs, and lambasted police for not intervening.
The New Democratic Party of Serbia labeled the authorities’ behavior as the last and most dangerous reactive stage, which confirms that the regime has based its defense on sending criminal gangs to cause clashes in the streets.
