The Commissioner for  Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection  Milan Marinovic said that citizens “often reveal more data about themselves and members of their families than necessary.”

“These data are usually provided for the purposes of marketing, different cards offering various benefits, and, of course, on the Internet, because we all use different applications on our smartphones, without thinking if processing those data was in proportion with the purpose,” Marinovic said for Politika newspaper on Aug. 7.

Marinovic said that from February 2022, when the amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information went into force, to July 31, this year, the Office of the Commissioner rendered 993 rulings to order government bodies to make available information they had denied, and that 388 had yet to do it.

“Most of the rulings that have not been enforced were rendered in the appeal cases against Air Serbia, as many as 223, and another 50 against the Ministry of the Environment,” Marinovic said, answering a question if the Commissioner’s rulings were respected.
