The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, said on Sept. 1 that the liberalization of the visa regime with Kosovo should not be tied to the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

“The citizens of Kosovo deserve the long-awaited liberalization of the visa regime. We want to be clear, visa-free travel is not, and should not be tied to Kosovo’s dialogue with Serbia. The European Union must fulfill its promise to the citizens of Kosovo that they will be able to travel freely as of Jan. 1, 2024,” Von Cramon said.

Her reaction ensued after a recent statement by French President Emmanuel Macron that the EU's decision on visa liberalisation could be suspended if the parties in the dialogue were not responsible.

EU institutions said a few months ago that Kosovo's citizens would be able to travel without visas as of Jan. 1, 2024.
