Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has confirmed that snap elections will be held on Dec. 17. "They will have parliamentary, Belgrade and Vojvodina elections," Vucic told Prva TV late on Oct. 12, adding that in this way he was making the opposition's wish come true.
Vucic said elections needed to be called by Nov. 2 in order to be held on Dec. 17. He added that local elections would be held in some 60 municipalities which, as he put it, depended "on who wants to resign."
In his words, it is important that elections take place and that citizens can say what they think about the direction Serbia is headed in when there is "a false notion of a crisis of legitimacy of governing bodies." "It is important that people state their choice, people are the bearers of sovereignty, the nation is the bearer of sovereignty... We can win the people's trust - that is all right. We can't - here, have someone else rule. We have no problem with that whatsoever," said Vucic.
