Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic talked at the Serbian government headquarters with members of a working group on how an action plan for the reorganization of the Srbijagas public company was progressing, the Ministry said on Oct. 19.
"At the request of the ministry, Serbian parliament adopted amendments and supplements to the Law on Energy in July this year which made a major contribution to reforms in the gas sector by creating a Republic Commission for Energy Networks. This independent body will assume prerogatives from the Ministry over state operators of electricity transmission systems, Elektromreza Srbije" and the Transportgas company for gas, Djedovic Handanovic said.
The new legal solution, she said, lowers the cabinet's jurisdictions and raises the jurisdictions of parliament over the area of producing and transmitting electricity and supplies and ensures that Serbia is fully aligned with the EU's regulatory framework. She added that she expected the Republic Commission to start soon, which will create the conditions for the certification of Transportgas.
"After the formation of the Republic Commission, we expect a request for the certification of the operator of the natural gas transport system to be filed in the shortest possible time which is one of the most important goals of implementing an action plan for reorganization in the gas sector," she said. She added that the state's goal was the better management of energy companies.
