On Dec. 20, the Supreme Court of North Macedonia rejected as ungrounded the request of the convicted former prime minister of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, for the extraordinary review of the verdict in the “Properties at Vodno” case.

According to the statement, “the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of North Macedonia has reached a decision by which the appeal of the convicted N.G. for the extraordinary review of the verdict of the Basic Criminal Court Skopje of April 21, 2022 and the verdict of the Appellate Court Skopje of Feb. 14, 2023 is rejected as ungrounded.”

In the case dubbed „Properties at Vodno,“ Gruevski was sentenced to seven years in prison in April last year and the Appellate Court in Skopje increased the sentence to nine years in February this year.

Nikola Gruevski fled to Hungary in November 2018, when he was supposed to start serving a two-year sentence in the „Tank“ case, and he was granted asylum there. Macedonian authorities have issued an international arrest warrant for the fugitive former PM, but Budapest has denied the requests for his extradition.
