On Feb. 26, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic began talks on who will fill the office of prime minister following the December 2023 elections.
The negotiations – held at Belgrade’s New Palace, where the president’s office is located – opened with two minority tickets: Shaip Kamberi’s The Political Fight of Albanians Continues and Slobodan Nikolic’s Russian Party.
MP Kamberi said after the consultations that his party was not joining the next Serbian government, as a seven-point political plan for the integration of ethnic Albanians in government bodies should be implemented first.
Slobodan Nikolic, also an MP, said that the Russian Party was not interested in a ministerial post or the position of a state secretary at the new cabinet, but rather a role at the Parliament of Serbia connected to bilateral relations with Russia.
The Serbian president will continue consultations with parliamentary parties on nominations for Serbia’s next prime minister with representatives of the Alliance of Vojvodina’s Hungarians, the Justice and Reconciliation Party and the Democratic Alliance of Croats in Vojvodina.
