North Macedonia accepts in principle the idea about opening centers for the rehabilitation of wounded and injured Ukrainian soldiers, it was stated on March 7 by the office of the president of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski.
“The idea (about opening centers for the rehabilitation of wounded and injured Ukrainian soldiers in the Western Balkan countries, including North Macedonia) is acceptable for us in principle, but it has to be developed in substance and detail, which will be in the jurisdiction of the governments of countries agreeing to take part in the program,” Pendarovski’s office told the state-owned news agency MIA.
To the question about whether there had been any requests to that end and if the possible implications of such action to national security were discussed at the session of the president’s Council for National Security, the president’s office replied that this was initially the proposal of the Croatian prime minister and Montenegrin president, considering that these two countries already had experience and capacities for rehabilitation from the military conflicts of the 1990s.
The idea about Balkan states, including North Macedonia, helping in the rehabilitation of children and soldiers from the war zones in Ukraine, as stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, was discussed during the recent meetings with the presidents of North Macedonia and Montenegro, Stevo Pendarovski and Jakov Milatovic, at the Ukraine – South East Europe summit in Tirana on Feb. 28.
