Two-day Budapest Balkans Forum, a platform for fostering dialogue, cooperation, and development across the Balkans region and its integration in the EU, is kicking off in Hungary’s capital on March 12.

Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic will be meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto to discuss future cooperation and construction of an oil pipeline connecting the two countries.

During the forum, Djedovic Handanovic will address a ministerial roundtable focusing on energy security.

“The topic is energy security. As we know, the crisis in Ukraine is still ongoing. We have energy stability and sufficient gas supplies – 388 million cubic meters of gas in underground gas storage Banatski Dvor in Serbia, and 163 million cubic meters of gas here in Hungary, but we still have to be cautious. Hungary is Serbia’s strategic partner, particularly in the energy sector,” the minister has told Serbian public state broadcaster RTS.

The minister also said that Hungary had been increasingly focusing on nuclear power, noting that Serbia should also be considering the use of this form of energy.

During the two-day forum in Budapest, the participants will discuss the future of the region, including tackling labor shortage in Central and Southeast Europe.
