Vucic: Serbia Refuses to Be Torn to Pieces, Will Never Join NATO

On March 24, at the official commemoration of the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia held by the city of Prokuplje, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that 25 years later, the country still continues to resist attempts to break up its territory.

“It’s been 25 years, and we continue to hold strong, to refuse to have Serbia torn to pieces...There is a small nation in Europe, in a small country, on a small territory, which remains proud and dignified, refusing to be occupied and to accept outside dictates,” the president said.

According to Vucic, the “villains” who perpetrated the bombing of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia have recently become increasingly adamant in their claims that they were forced into such action and that it was for Serbia’s own good. “Then, in their next breath, they claim how they are sorry for [the death of] one Bojana, one Milica, and one Sanja, while insisting that Serbia and Kosovo can both focus on the future. What they are actually saying is ‘no, we’re not sorry, we’ve completed our dirty work of tearing Serbia apart,” Vucic opined.

Commenting on the fact that this March 24 also saw Kosovo become an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Vucic said that the move means Serbia will never join the Alliance. “Thank you, we are now cemented in the knowledge that we will never join NATO, that we will maintain and safeguard our military neutrality. And when you admit [Kosovo] into the Council of Europe, know that we will have a response to that as well. So much for your lies, your sanctions against Pristina. You’ve done everything to reward them, and everything to punish Serbia,” Vucic concluded.
