Forming the Community of Serb Municipalities in Kosovo is of "key importance" for Serbs to realize what their lives will be like, James O'Brien, U.S. assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs, said in Belgrade on April 20.

"If there are concerns that the international community is not meeting its obligation to assist with that, I hope that we will do everything in our power to keep the promise made to ourselves and others," O'Brien said after meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

As for a resolution on genocide in Srebrenica to be examined by the U.N. General Assembly, O'Brien said there had been a lot of discussion in the U.S. too about its own history and that of other parts of the world, especially Srebrenica. "We must face the truth," the U.S. official said.

Vucic said he and O'Brien had agreed on little when it came to Kosovo and Srebrenica. "We agree that it is very important to preserve peace and stability, and on behalf of the Serbian side I promised that Serbia would behave responsibly, seriously, and talked about what kind of lies were coming from those talking about some kind of invasion, war, since we would not even think about taking part in such things," Vucic told reporters in the Presidency after the meeting.
