Montenegro will, with mediation by the U.S., submit two amendments to Germany’s draft resolution on International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide so as to improve relations and reduce political tensions in the region, the Montenegrin government unofficially told the RTCG public service on May 5.
The changes underline that responsibility for the genocide is individual and insist that the Dayton Agreement be strictly abided by.
The service published the text of the amendments in full.
The first amendment reads: “Reiterating that guilt for the crime of genocide is individualized and cannot be attributed to any ethnic, religious, or other group or community as a whole.”
The second reads: “Confirming the inviolability of the general framework agreement for peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina in all its provisions.”
According to RTCG’s sources, the goal of the additions is to prevent any potential manipulations to the detriment of Serbia and the Serbian people – specifically any legal or political repercussions – and to prevent the narrative and very intention of declaring a single people genocidal. The second amendment essentially insists on Republika Srpska existing within Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was stipulated by the Dayton Agreement, the broadcaster said.
