Dacic: Belgrade-Podgorica Relationship Would Benefit from Serbs Joining Government

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on July 6 that the United States was preparing documents for a solution for Kosovo.

According to Dacic, the U.S. strategy was to get Belgrade to stop lobbying states to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo's independence, and for Pristina to withdraw its enormous customs tariffs on Serbian products in return.

"If Pristina stops lobbying for independence, we will stop lobbying for states to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo's independence, but that is not going to happen. They want us to do something for Pristina to revoke the taxes. We want a dialogue, but not with the taxes in force. They need to be revoked for the dialogue to continue," Dacic said.

The Serbian foreign minister also said that EU officials were acting like "Tibetan wise men," who "keep tolerating" Pristina's unilateral and provocative acts designed to "behead the dialogue."

"We can't possibly know what Pristina could do next to make a compromise impossible, but they can forget the idea that they can do whatever they want," Dacic said.
