Belgrade University Rector Ivanka Popovic said that the Sept. 23 meeting with the students who had been blocking the Rector’s Office was constructive, noting that it represented “a step forward toward an agreement.”

“I believe that we will find a solution to the benefit of the entire University of Belgrade,” Popovic told reporters after the three-hour meeting with students at the Rectorate.

An activist of movement One Out of Five Million and a student, Valentina Rekovic, described the meeting as responsible and constructive, adding that the topic of the talks was “to shed light on the doctoral degree of Finance Minister Sinisa Mali.”

“Students are not little kids as claimed by some in the Serbian Progressive Party,” she told reporters.

The next meeting of the rector and students is scheduled for 11 am on Sept. 24, at the Rectorate.

Students of movement One out of Five Million have been blocking the Rector’s Office for ten days now, demanding from the rector to seek from Prime Minister Ana Brnabic the dismissal of Finance Minister Sinisa Mali over his disputed doctorate.
