Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic has confirmed that some 30 new ambassadors and consuls general of Serbia will be appointed soon.
He said there will no longer be those who stay longer than their four-year mandate.
This, he said, is a regular procedure of appointing new officials and not an act of removing anyone from office, the Vecernje Novosti daily reported on Jan. 10.
“No final decisions have made on who’ll go where. I expect more room will be provided for career diplomats,” said Dacic.
According to the Vecernje Novosti, the list of the ambassadors and consuls general whose terms have expired or who are “spending their final months” are also diplomats in key world centers – China and the U.S..
Milan Bacevic has been in Beijing since January 2015, and Djerdj Matkovic in Washington, D.C., since February of the same year.
At the end of last year the Serbian embassy in Moscow got a new ambassador – Miroslav Lazanski.
