The Security and Information Agency (BIA) would submit an official request to the Montenegrin National Security Agency to demand all relevant information in relation to the case of “beating up a young man in downtown Podgorica over his three-finger salutes,” Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti reported on Jan. 28.

According to the daily’s information, BIA will demand from Montenegrin colleagues video material from the cameras near Delta shopping mall that recorded the attack on the young man, which occurred after a rally welcoming the Montenegrin national water polo team.

A meeting of Serbian top officials, called by President Aleksandar Vucic, was held in the evening on Jan. 27, to view the situation in the region. The meeting was attended by the interior, defense and foreign ministers, Nebojsa Stefanovic, Aleksandar Vulin and Ivica Dacic respectively, and BIA chief Bratislav Gasic.

On Jan. 28, Stefanovic said he expected a soon meeting of Vucic and his Montenegrin counterpart Milo Djukanovic, to discuss the protection of the Serbs in Montenegro. Stefanovic told public broadcaster RTS that he did not like the escalation of conflicts in Montenegro, adding he was expecting Vucic and Djukanovic to meet very soon.

Stefanovic further said that Belgrade was not happy with the developments in Montenegro and would wait for official information regarding the beating up of the young man in downtown Podgorica as Belgrade was concerned that it was ethnic violence.

Several unidentified people attacked the young man in Podgorica’s neighborhood Siti Kvart. The video submitted to Podgorica daily Vijesti shows three men chasing the young man, one catching up with him and throwing him down on the ground and several men hitting and kicking him.
