The Zrenjanin environmental inspection on April 13 temporarily banned operation of Chinese plastic recycling plant Feitiansuye in the village of Perlez, Zrenjanin Deputy Mayor Sasa Santovac has told BETA.

“The plant was ordered to cease operation until the problems are solved. The inspection detected certain discrepancies with the earlier report and accordingly made this decision on April 13, to make sure the investor will rectify the registered irregularities,” he said.

According to the explanation, a surprise inspection was performed after the watchdog had been addressed by 70 citizens complaining about the smell generated by the plant for plastic recycling and storage.

The ban will be in place until testing results show that there is no harm to the environment.
