According to the June 15 edition of the Danas daily, the authorities are considering restructuring ownership of Elektroprivreda Srbije, Serbia’s publicly-owned electric utility company. Danas claims said restructuring would entail a public-private partnership (PPP) with a foreign enterprise and as well as new loans for EPS.

Citing sources close to EPS, the article maintains that, while there is a strong lobby supporting the PPP within the state administration, the decision ultimately rests solely on Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

In recent days, other media have claimed that Serbia’s authorities are considering transforming EPS into a joint-stock company, which would, allegedly, be the first step toward privatizing the electric utility .

The Danas article stated that the Cabinet is contemplating three possible privatization models: a strategic partnership, recapitalization and a public-private partnership.

Asked about such plans, the Ministry of Mining and Energy responded that “EPS remains 100 percent owned by the state.”
