Serbia, Romania flags (BETAPHOTO/CONSTRUCTION MINISTRY/Djordje Krstic)
The governments of Serbia and Romania have signed an agreement on the construction of the Belgrade-Timisoara highway, the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure announced on June 24.
The agreement will enable the connection of future highways between Belgrade and Vatin in Serbia, 65 kilometers long, and Timisoara and Moravita in Romania, 78 kilometers long.
The first ideas about connecting Belgrade to Timisoara emerged in 2016, while now it has been decided to build a full-profile highway rather than the originally planned expressway.
Feasibility studies for the highway are to be completed by the end of the year, and a contractor is to be selected sometime in 2023.
