The U.S. Rivian manufacturer of electric automobiles opened on Dec. 8 a technology center in Belgrade which will provide jobs for 200 engineers.
The inauguration of the center was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic who said that Rivian's arrival in Serbia was of special importance and that over a year and a half of efforts were undertaken to bring this investor to Serbia. "Serbia is the only country in Europe to succeed in this. After the U.S. and Canada, they opened a center only in Serbia. This is something that you live for and work for and fight for. I saw motivated young people here, who are well-paid, and who will stay here to live and work," Vucic said.
U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill said that "I am overjoyed that such a brilliant company is fitting in so well in Serbian culture, literally like burek and yogurt." "From the standpoint of the U.S. embassy we are proud that this company is here and it will be our pleasure to watch the company grow," Hill said.
Founded in 2009, the Rivian company deals in designing and producing electric vehicles. Its first model was the R1T pickup truck with two rows of seats for five passengers, which has been declared the best vehicle in its category. The company also manufactures an SUV called R1S with three rows of seats for seven passengers.
