Oil and gas company NIS (BETAPHOTO/EMIL VAS)
Serbia’s oil and gas multinational Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) announced on July 1 that the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has granted the company a special operating license that expires as of Aug. 1.
“This license allows NIS to maintain operations, contracts and other agreements involving NIS or its operating subsidiaries, including oil refineries, crude oil imports, transactions required for steady deliveries and technical maintenance, as well as financial settlements,” NIS published on its website.
The company thanked all domestic and foreign institutions which have supported its unhindered operation.
In July 1 morning statements of their own, Hungary’s MOL Group announced OFAC approval for its negotiations with Gazprom Neft regarding the purchase of Russia’s majority stake in NIS, while Croatia’s Jadranski Naftovod (JANAF) stated the Croatian government helped the company secure OFAC consent to fulfill its contractual obligations toward NIS.
Both of these, however, expire as of Aug. 1, while the previous special licenses the OFAC issued NIS and MOL expired on July 1.
