Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic-Handanovic met in Tokyo, on Sept. 20, with Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura, to discuss closer ties in the energy sector, and the energy transition process in general, the Office of the Minister of Mining and Energy reported.

The Office quoted the Japanese minister as saying that Serbia’s geographical location increased its strategic significance, and that cooperation with Serbia was very important. “Serbia is the most important and largest country in the Western Balkan region,” the minister added during the meeting.

The Serbian energy minister thanked Japan as one of Serbia’s largest donors, underlining that a visit by Japan’s former prime minister, Shinzo Abe, in 2018, stepped up and advanced bilateral relations in all spheres. Djedovic-Handanovic  explained that the value of Japanese investments in Serbia doubled in 2022 compared to the previous year, that trade increased considerably as well, and that Japanese companies were among leading investors in Serbia today.
