Serbia is likely to see another petrol price jump next week, due to an excise tax increase of eight percent endorsed on Oct. 1, petrol station owners said for BETA on Oct. 2.

One of them, Nebojsa Atanackovic, said that at this point fuel sellers were unable to say with certainty if the new tax increase had been included in the diesel price that went up three dinars on Sept. 29, or the latest increase was based on growing crude oil prices, but it was certain that the price did not include the full amount of the new excise tax.

The Government of Serbia adopted a new ordinance to increase the prices of oil derivatives, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and coffee by eight percent, which went into force on Oct. 1. The price of diesel fuel went up three dinars on Sept. 29, from RSD211 to RSD214 per liter, and gasoline prices dropped one dinar, from RSD192 to RSD191.

Atanackovic said that the new diesel/gasoline prices should add 4.8 and 4.6 dinars respectively, and when the VAT tax is added to the new prices, they should grow by slightly below six and five dinars respectively.

The owner of the AVIA petrol stations, Jelena Radun, also said that the latest excise tax increase had not been included in the petrol price jump last Friday, and that it should be expected next week.
