Bojan Simisic, leader of the environmental movement Eco Guard and one of Serbia's most active opponents to lithium mining, has recently played a key role in amplifying concerns that the ongoing demolition of the Yugoslavia Hotel could pose a health risk to the population. Simisic, a prominent figure in the fight against environmental pollution, air pollution in particular, has used social media and independent media platforms to spread the view that the unprofessional demolition of the iconic hotel could release significant amounts of asbestos, a toxic and highly carcinogenic substance, into the air.
