Last week’s dismissal of Spasoje Vulevic as commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) reveals the Aleksandar Vucic regime’s desire to place security services under its full control and poses an overture to dialing up repression against citizen protesters, the critical part of the public agrees. Vulevic, who spent a full 20 years as the head of the police’s most elite unit, was dismissed at Vucic’s request – apparently for not being loyal enough, at a time when the government leadership is seeking to establish firm control over every armed formation in the country.
