The number of coronavirus cases in Serbia has now reached 55, the Serbian Health Ministry’s reported in the morning on March 16.

A total of 301 patients have so far been tested in the national reference laboratory at the Torlak institute.

Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said on March 16 that four hospitals in Serbia – two in Belgrade, and one in Nis and Novi Sad each – have been reserved for those infected with COVID-19.

“These hospitals will operate differently and will accept only emergency cases, in order to lower the number of visits and, consequently, the risk of spreading the infection,” said Loncar.

Serbian Prime Minster Ana Brnabic said on March 16, that if the elderly fail to comply with the government’s recommendation to stay indoors for the duration of the state of emergency, and “there is still this many people in the streets,” the authorities will impose the most drastic measure – a curfew.
