Hungary has opened its borders to Serbian citizens, Hungarian Foreign Affairs Minister Peter Szijjarto said on May 25 at Roszke border crossing, where he had a meeting with Serbia’s European Integration Minister Jadranka Joksimovic.

As of 10 a.m. on May 25, Serbian citizens may use all nine border crossings to enter Hungary without PCR tests and the mandatory 14-day quarantine, the RTS public service reported.

Szijjarto said that Serbia is the first country outside the EU that Hungary has opened its borders to, i.e. loosened the measures introduced to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the RTS report.

Joksimovic said that the opening of the border is important for people living on its both sides, calling it an event which shows that the cooperation between the two countries is "a partnership and a result of good neighborly relations".

Vojvodina Speaker Istvan Pastor also attended the meeting at the Serbian-Hungarian border.
