Marinika Tepic, the deputy leader of the Serbian Freedom and Justice Party, is of the opinion that the political crisis will spill into the streets if fair election conditions are not ensured.

For the Jan. 28 issue of the NIN weekly, Tepic said that one cannot just take the government’s word that the conditions will be met, but that it has to guarantee the deadlines and goals, with the mediation of the European Parliament.

“I’m convinced that the negations [with the authorities] have to yield positive results when it comes to ensuring the election conditions. [This will be accomplished] the easy or the hard way. Around a table or on the streets,” Tepic said.

“Now is the time for everyone to understand that there’s no turning back,” she further added.

It is impossible to join the election race, Tepic believes, without “opening up the RTS [public service]” and having supervising authorities overseeing the implementation of the agreed election conditions.

“We cannot take [the government’s] word for it; we can only trust an agreement with the mediation of the European Parliament, whereby deadlines, goals and supervision of the fulfilled conditions are assured,” Tepic affirmed.
