The deputy leader of the Freedom and Justice Party, Borko Stefanovic, on Feb. 23 said that statements by government officials that amendments of European MPs to a draft Serbia Progress Report were unnecessary, meant that the Serbian government had abandoned the EU path.

Stefanovic said that Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin’s statement describing as unnecessary the amendments submitted by MEPs, requesting light be shed on criminal affairs in relation to Savamala (illegal demolition of facilities along the Belgrade waterfront), the Jovanjica marijuana plant, arms maker Krusik, and state telecoms operator Telekom, was the proof that “this regime will not be combating crime or corruption.”

“It is clear that the incumbent regime, which works against the people, will fall down and that all responsible for criminalization of Serbia will be tried before independent courts,” Stefanovic stressed.

On Feb. 23, the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs is set to vote on MEP Vladimir Bilcik’s report on Serbia and the submitted amendments.
