Serbian Minister of Tourism Tatjana Matic said on Aug. 8 that she did not expect the European Commission to decide in August to remove Serbia from the EU's green travel list over a recent surge in daily infections.

In an interview with Prva TV Minister Matic said that "local statistics are not good," and that the decision might be "reconsidered" in September, when tourists return from holiday and the new schoolyear starts, which could spark a large increase in the number of coronavirus infections.

"Even before June 15 Serbia had bilateral agreements with many members of the European Union, and Serbian travellers were able to visit Greece, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia," Matic said, adding that a decision to remove Serbia from the green list would mean that "some EU states have decided to tighten entry restrictions," not to ban entry.

The minister said that unvaccinated persons would be affected by potential new restrictions more than others, because many states had already embraced the rule that a person can only enter a closed area with a Covid pass, while it was certain that "vaccinated people will be able to travel without any major problems."
