Moscow believes that the words of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama suggesting unification of Albania and Kosovo were "absolutely unacceptable," says a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.

She cautioned in a written statement released on Oct. 11 that to promote a plan to crate a Greater Albania was contrary to the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, undermining regional stability as well. "It is particularly odd to hear that a violation of the fundamental document in resolving the Kosovo crisis can be the primary career goal for the leader of a Balkan state," Zakharova said.

She added that such detrimental ideas are in absolute contrast with Belgrade and Tirana's joint efforts to create a single market, taken within the Open Balkan Initiative.

Kosovo.online quoted the Albanian prime minister as saying that the purpose and chief aspiration of his career was to unite Kosovo and Albania, denying that any personal interest might be involved. "A president of Albania and Kosovo? It's not my plan! The unification of Albania and Kosovo? Yes! That's an aspiration," Rama said.
