Over the past 24 hours 57 people died in Serbia of the coronavirus bringing the death toll to 9,214, an Oct. 19 statement said.

According to the Serbian Institute for Public Health 7,664 people tested positive for the virus out of 25,339. A total of 6,679 people have been hospitalized while 274 are on ventilators.

Republic Health Insurance Fund director Sanja Radojevic Skodric said on Oct. 19 that the Molnupiravir drug produced by the MSD company would arrive in Serbia in January and that it was reserved for treating 50,000 patients.

Prva TV has reported that Serbia is the first country in Europe to have signed a contract for procuring Molnupiravir and added that she expected it to be registered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, after which it was to be approved in Europe and Serbia. She stressed that the drug and vaccine were two different things and that "vaccines prevent while drugs cure."
