Chair of the European delegation of the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) Tanja Fajon voiced on Oct. 28 the hope that early parliamentary elections in the spring of 2022 would produce a pluralist parliament and called on all political forces, including the opposition, to participate in the elections.

At a SAPC session, Fajon said that the European Parliament would oversee the implementation of the measures arranged as part of an inter-party dialogue mediated by MEPs and all of the ODIHR's recommendations.

Fajon said that limited progress was achieved in the area of freedom of expression and that Serbia was stagnating according to the media freedom index. "Serbia still hasn't liberated itself from the sensationalist press that supports the government's measures and we still have daily attacks on journalists," Fajon said, and called on the government to make considerable advancements in this field.

Serbian Minister of European Integrations Jadranka Joksimovic said she had called on Fajon  to "document" her statement that journalists in Serbia were under attack on a daily basis, adding that she had not noticed this trend.
