Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Tanja Fajon has said in Belgrade that after this week's talks with political leaders in Serbia there may be additional recommendations for improving the election conditions.

"I expect that we might make some new recommendations again or talk with all the stakeholders about what else we can do," Fajon, an EP mediator in the inter-party dialogue on election conditions in Serbia, told N1 TV.

She said that she and the other three European mediators, Vladimir Bilcik, Eduard Kukan and Knut Fleckenstein, would meet in Belgrade on Jan. 28 with all the participants in the inter-party dialogue, as well as with representatives of the government and the civil sector.

"We want to see what is happening with the implementation of the 16 measures agreed in the inter-party dialogue, what the preparations for the April elections are like. The elections will be very important and I want all people to be able to choose, [I want] the elections to be free, transparent and fair, and that will be our most important message to the authorities," said Fajon.

When asked whether it could be a problem that some representatives of the opposition had not delegated representatives to the expanded Republic Election Commission and to a temporary body tasked with media monitoring, Fajon said that it would not be a crucial factor. "That was what they decided, it would be good for them to be in the process. When you remove yourself from the process, it is difficult for you to affect the process. But I think that it will not be that important," said Fajon.
