Josep Borrell, the EU high representative for foreign and security policy, has announced that his working lunch with the six foreign affairs ministers of the Western Balkans – scheduled for May 16 in Brussels – is a means for the EU to demonstrate the importance it attributes both to the region and the accession process.

“I had a meeting with [the Western Balkan ministers] here in Brussels a few days ago. Today they will sit with the Foreign Affairs Council to discuss with us the situation in the Western Balkans – which have been severely affected by the economic crisis,” Borrell said just before the opening of the Council’s two-day conference in Brussels, which will include the ministerial working lunch.

Serbia will be represented at the lunch by Foreign Affairs Minister Nikola Selakovic, who will use his stay in Brussels to also meet separately with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi.
