The People’s Party has filed a request to the Serbian speaker to call an emergency session on Kosovo and Metohija, which Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, too, would be invited to attend, the party reported on Aug. 8.

The opposition party explained in a press release that the Serbian president should attend the session to “brief the MPs on the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija and relevant international circumstances.”

“We believe that it would be extremely important that the Parliament of Serbia, following a comprehensive debate, should endorse relevant acts that would shape Serbia’s negotiating framework in terms of territorial integrity, sovereignty, the rights and interests of Serbia and Serbian nationals in Kosovo and Metohija,” the People’s Party said in the request, recalling that the last time the Serbian legislature discussed the Kosovo issue was in May 2019.

The party’s MP, Stefan Jovanovic, who is also a spokesperson for the People’s Party, said in a comment for Nova S TV that it didn’t take “private diplomacy” by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who is also the Serbian Progressive Party leader, to address problems in Kosovo, but rather the Parliament of Serbia should adopt “a negotiating framework” ahead of the next meeting with Pristina’s representatives in Brussels on Aug. 18, which should be a binding document for the Serbian president, too.
